Motorola launches Moto Droid Turbo as Moto Maxx in Brazil and Latin America

The Moto Maxx keeps the monstrous battery and top-of-the-line specs of the Verizon-only Droid Turbo.

Rather*than the new Moto X or the Nexus 6, Motorola’s Droid Turbo was the device that impressed folks the most when it was announced late last month. In addition to sporting features like a Quad HD display and a 21-megapixel camera, the Droid Turbo is unique thanks to its 3,900mAh battery, which is rated as being able to*keep the lights on for up to 48 hours.

The fact that the Droid Turbo was announced as an exclusive for US carrier Verizon disappointed many, but hopes were raised when rumors said the Droid Turbo would be launched as the Moto Maxx internationally. Well, while a general worldwide release is still not confirmed, Motorola has announced that the Moto Maxx would be launching in Brazil, Mexico, and a few Latin American countries in the near future.

Except for the lack of Verizon and Droid branding, the Moto Maxx is essentially the same as the Droid Turbo, which isn’t a bad thing. The phone features a 5.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, quad-core Snapragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32/64GB of on-board storage, and the aforementioned giant 3,900mAh battery.

The Moto Maxx should be extremely durable as well, thanks to a casing of “premium ballistic nylon” over kevlar fiber. On the software front, the phone runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat – being a Motorola device, it’s free of any manufacturer skins and bloat and offers a near-stock Android experience. The Moto Maxx should also be among the first devices to be updated to Android Lollipop, if we’re to go by Motorola’s recent update track record.

The Moto Maxx is available starting today in Brazil from Motorola’s website, and will be making its way to Mexico and other Latin American countries from mid-November. There’s no word on whether the phone is coming to other regions, though there’s a high chance Motorola won’t be keeping what is its most high-end device yet (apart from the Nexus 6) out of the reach of prospective consumers in Europe and other important smartphone markets.
