Remember how DisplayMate tested the Galaxy S5 screen earlier this year and claimed it to have the best display on a smartphone? Well they’re back with another review and this time it’s the turn of the Galaxy Note 4. And no prizes here for guessing, the Note 4 aced the test and is now claimed to have the best smartphone display in the market by DisplayMate.
DisplayMate claims that the Note 4’s Quad-HD Super AMOLED display shows significant improvements over both the Galaxy Note 3 as well as the Galaxy S5. The biggest improvement is of course in terms of the pixel density and resolution, as the Galaxy Note 4 comes with 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD resolution compared to the 1080p resolution on both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S5. Impressive improvements have also been noted in color accuracy, peak brightness, screen readability in high ambient lighting, and power efficiency.
The main highlights of the Galaxy Note 4’s impressive performance include highest every color accuracy results, highest resolution, infinite contrast ratio thanks to the AMOLED panel, highest brightness levels, highest sunlight legibility and the most impressive viewing angles.
So far, Samsung’s Super AMOLED panels have been criticized for not so accurate colors but the Note 4 apparently changes that completely. According to measurements by DisplayMate the Note 4 display has a higher color accuracy than even most consumer HDTVs. It also comes with a wide color gamut range, covering even the AdobeRGB gamut which is a rarity among consumer displays. It also completely covers the Rec.709 color gamut, which is the recommended color standard for HDTVs.
Apart from boasting superior color accuracy, the Note 4 is also said to be the most efficient Super AMOLED panel yet. The Galaxy Note 4 display was found to be 40% more power efficient than any 1080p LCD smartphone display tested by DisplayMate.
Definitely quite impressive results there, but you need to keep in mind that DisplayMate hasn’t yet tested many of the 2014 flagship devices yet. So even though the Note 4 might have the best display tested by DisplayMate to date, it might not necessarily have THE best display on the market.
