Thanks to a few slip ups,*Tekken 7 isn’t a secret any longer.
Thousands of fighting game enthusiasts have gathered for EVO 2014 in Las Vegas to celebrate the genre, but*a projection blunder, they were accidentally shown something that heralded the return of one of the landmark brawling franchises: a Tekken 7 logo.
Accompanying the show-wide slip, a video popped up on AOL On*with the clear unmistakable title “Tekken 7 Announced” and a description that reads “The 3D fighting franchise returns using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4.”
The footage has since been taken down, and reportedly featured an in-depth look at the game from IGN.
It’s believed that Bandai Namco had planned to*treat attendees to the Tekken 7 reveal at the event to mark the franchises 20th anniversary, which would lead to triumphant fanfare and applause from Dragon-uppercutters everywhere.
Tekken 7 marks the tenth release in the series, which remains one of the earliest influences in the fighting genre. It’s been two years since the last Tekken release–Tekken Tag Tournament 2–and the game will assuredly find a warm welcome with a host of new and old characters in its roster.
Since the announcement isn’t yet official we’re not sure which platforms Tekken 7 will be coming to,*but series producer and director Katsuhiro Harada said that the Unreal Engine 4 “allows us to immediately bring [the game] to any platform we desire” and “achieve the visual quality expected on next-gen platforms”.
That’s a big hint that it’ll be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but we may see a release on Xbox 360 and PS3 as well.
