This may sound hard to believe, but Microsoft is allegedly willing to make a pact with the devil and roll out a second-generation Android-based Nokia X smartphone before long.
With Microsoft’s buyout still pending regulatory approvals at the time of Nokia X, X+ and XL’s intros back in February, it’s entirely possible the erstwhile Finnish mobile maker’s first stab at Android devices wasn’t technically green lit by the big kahunas in Redmond.
But if the X line is to get reinforcements in its battle against Motorola’s Moto E and G, any subsequent Android efforts definitely need Satya Nadella’s blessing. Never going to happen? Think again, as a supposed 2015 Nokia X2 has been spotted doing a few benchmarking rounds.
Sure, there’s no way to know the leak is believable, but the rumored specs fit the profile of an X sequel perfectly. The first-gen’s modest dual-core 1 GHz Snapdragon S4 Play chip is apparently subbed by a slightly zippier 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 (also dual-core), whereas the sub-par 512 MB RAM grows twofold to 1 full gig.
Ergo, the AnTuTu score is superior to X test results (11,800 points vs under 8,000), although the Moto E may still give it a run for its money. Both handhelds sport the same hardware config, but E’s much purer Android port should help it deliver considerably smoother performance.
Speaking of which, don’t even dream of the Nokia X2 offering direct access to the Play Store or supporting Google Apps. If it’s real in the first place. Also, 4 GB is all you can hope for in the storage department. Plus a microSD card slot, of course.

On the bright side, a visual render (concept?) showcases an inconspicuous secondary camera slapped to X2’s front and a dedicated home button “insiders” confirmed BGR India to be legit. Clearly good news, but let’s be cautious and not jump to conclusions yet, a’ight?
