New 'Tales From the Borderlands' screens and details revealed

Telltale Games has exposed the first batch of screenshots for Tales From the Borderlands, the episodic adventure set in Gearbox’s definitive FPS*franchise.

Classic characters from the Borderlands franchise will make an appearance throughout Telltale’s adaptation.

When Telltale Games announced a collaborative effort with Gearbox to explore one of the most hilarious and popular FPS franchises, the gaming world responded in kind with resounding curiosity.

With Telltale’s episodic take on The Walking Dead series becoming a rousing success, the studio aims its sights on the untold stories of Pandora’s wacky and crazed denizens–and here we find ourselves at Tales From the Borderlands .

A non-FPS Borderlands game may seem odd and counter-intuitive, but Telltale is bringing their own flourishing story-telling to the table while preserving the havoc-inducing antics of the franchise. Chaos and hilarity are still mainstays–we get a sense of this from the newly released screenshots–so that things stay authentic to Gearbox’s original flair, but now gamers are privy to a more story-based experience that has a variety of branching points.

Hunter S. Thompson anyone?

Tales From the Borderlands is set after the events of Borderlands 2, and players will see a few familiar faces–like the deadly sword-wielding assassin-ninja Zer0 as well as the clambering loud-mouthed Cl4ptr4p–throughout their adventures. There will be a multitude of brand-new faces as well, including our two protagonists: Rhys, a conniving Hyperion data-miner and Fiona, a silver-tongued con-artist with razor-sharp wit.

In a recent post on the PlayStation Blog , Telltale’s own Adam Sarasohn delves into some of the defining points of Tales From the Borderlands, affirming that it’ll keep an episodic model that’s akin to all Telltale’s recent releases.

In true Telltale fashion, players will be able to make their own choices that branch off to further story arcs and events.

The post also revealed some interesting things we can expect from the game, including the following:

  • The loot you grab in Tales will be available to use in other areas of the Borderlands franchise

  • It’s an episodic series that’ll be $4.99 per episode (or you can save with the Season Pass)

  • Your choices matter and will help create YOUR version of the story across the season

  • The series takes place after the events of Borderlands 2. Handsome Jack is gone. Or is he? You might have seen the trailer we put out a while back

  • You’re going to play two different viewpoints. Rhys works for Hyperion; he’s a company man with grand ambitions that have been thrown off the rails. Fiona is a fast-talking con artist, with very few people left on Pandora she hasn’t swindled one way or another

  • They both have a very different opinion of the events that brought them together, and the only way to find out something near to the truth is to live their lives and make your own decisions

While no official release date has been set for Tales From the Borderlands, Telltale is eyeing a Summer 2014 window which will undoubtedly span across multiple platforms–current/next-gen and PC.
