GeForce GTX 880 may feature 8GB of memory

Details on an engineering sample of Nvidia’s upcoming card reveal some interesting details about its memory.

New details have leaked out about Nvidia’s upcoming GTX 880 card from an unexpected source: a shipping manifest.

According to a post on the Chinese language forum Chip Hell, when Nvidia shipped its GTX 880 engineering sample from its facility in China to its development center in India it was extraordinarily forthcoming on the manifest.

The manifest shows the engineering sample has 8GB of memory and the GM204 core, the successor to the GK104. While rumors persist that Nvidia has been hit by manufacturing delays, the new platform itself looks promising. It’s said to include 3,200 CUDA cores, 5.7 TFLOP/s single-precision floating-point throughput, and a 256-bit GDDR5 memory bus.

It also shows that Nvidia has declared the card to have a market value of approximately 48,000 Indian Rupees which equals around $780.

Granted, the card being shipped may be a high-end version of the GTX 880 and a cheaper version with 4GB of memory may be available.
