ZeniMax Online has today announced the official 2014 release date of their expansive MMORPG, The Elder Scrolls Online.
Bethesda has set in stone an official release date for The Elder Scrolls Online , which is planned to launch on April 4, 2013 on PC & Mac and in June 2014 for PS4 and Xbox One.
To celebrate the occassion, ESO‘s game director Matt Firor shares an update on how the game is shaping up, and that ZeniMax Online is busy polishing the game’s “hundreds and hundreds hours of content”:
Firor goes on to say there is an exponential amount of demand for the game itself, and explains how the team plans to handle the launch process to make it as smooth as possible for everyone:

During this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo, I personally had the chance to try out The Elder Scrolls Online for myself–and I can say without a doubt that it’s an incredible experience. The sheer amount of content is staggering, and ZeniMax has created a fluid, sprawling fantasy world in the vein of the canon mythos that’s vibrant and immersive.
One of the most amazing aspects of the game is that players will be able to scale the entire world of Nirn, from the frozen tundras of the Nordic homeland in Skyrim to the tropical and dune-filled deserts of Stros M’Kai in Hammerfell–and even the marshy wetlands of Black Marsh, where the Argonians call home.
While the required paid subscription fee of $15.99 a month might deter some gamers, ZeniMax will most likely include a free month of play with the game’s purchase. Besides, the team didn’t agree with the free-to-play microtransaction model, and many eager players agree with their choice.
Along with Matt Firor’s commentary, ZeniMax has released a brand new trailer that chronicles the game’s main story arc and shows some pretty impressive battle sequences.
Gamers who have always wanted to play The Elder Scrolls series with their friends and try out their characters with some old-fashioned dueling action will get their wish with ESO, and its wide-scale battle sequences are an unprecedented leap for the series.
Throughout the next coming months, the studio will continue to build their massive world and refine the mechanics to ready it for its ambitious launch next year, keeping with their projections of a “Spring 2014″ launch date.

“Game development is coming along very well. We completed major systems development, and are focusing on making this the Elder Scrolls game you expect: polishing the hundreds and hundreds of hours of content, making combat even more fun and responsive, fixing quest issues, and much, much more.
“In fact, we plan on spending the next few months before launch reacting to the latest feedback from internal and external testers and gameplay data we have collected.”
