Stolen car used to smash Berlin Apple store's front door prior to robbery

Thieves drove a car into the front door of the Berlin Apple store before getting their hands on the merchandise.

The Apple store in Berlin is iconic in its own right. Located at Kurfürstendamm, it took two years to be constructed and opened back in May 2013. It is Apple’s 12th store in Germany and the only one in Berlin. The location itself is nothing short of a landmark, the store is located in a 100 year old renovated theatre.*Large glass windows adorn the front, as is the norm with most Apple stores, so its not surprising to see that the thieves thought it would be easy to get in by simply smashing open the front door.

Thieves used a stolen hatchback to get into the store. However there weren’t able to grab any more than the 20 or so demonstration units placed around the store of iPads, iPhones and MacBooks. Rest of the store’s inventory had already been locked away since the store was closed for the day, so even if the authorities haven’t disclosed exactly how much the haul is worth, it probably won’t be that much.

Apple’s brick and mortar stores have been the target of robberies in the past as well. A similar M.O. was used last September at the store in Temecula, California where thieves got access by smashing the front windows.
