Report: 'Fallout 4' is indeed real, and is currently in development

Leaked information has apparently revealed that Fallout 4 is indeed real, and the post-apocalyptic game is to be set in the city of Boston.

The team over at Kotaku has received some interesting leaked info that reportedly confirms Fallout 4 is really in development, and as rumored, the game will take place in Boston, Massachusetts.

If true, this news will provide solace to just about everyone in the Fallout community who was duped by the Surivvor2299 hoax, which tricked gamers across the globe.

Kotaku reports that the documents, which all pertain to a project codenamed “Institute”, don’t outright mention the word “Fallout” anywhere. However there are many mentions of Fallout-themed references, especially to the distinct post-apocalyptic world and characters, and the documents continue to mention character actors who have worked closely with Bethesda in Dishonored and Skyrim.

The gaming sphere has also assumed that Bethesda, the studio that brought Fallout 3 to life, would be handling the development for Fallout 4, Bethsoft hasn’t said a peep about the game and assuredly didn’t take advantage of the massive hype that Survivor 2299 created.

Some time ago, rumors passed back and forth that Bethesda sent workers to investigate and scout the Massachusetts Institude of Technology (hence the codename “Institute”, and thusly gave a smidgen of credence to Boston being the game’s setting).

There is another bit of info that reinforces the possibility of another Fallout game; online German store Gameware recently listed pre-orders Fallout 4 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. No release date was available on the site, and the listing has since been taken down.

If Bethesda is indeed crafting*Fallout 4, then they’ll have quite a portfolio of upcoming hits in store for gamers–first we have*The Elder Scrolls Online , then Shinji Mikami’s devilishly horrific*The Evil Within , followed by the immensely challenging*Wolfenstein: The New Order.

In any case, Kotaku goes on to report that the game’s setting isn’t set in stone–Boston could just be the setting for the mission written in the script, and brings up the point that the documents could have been crafted specifically for a casting call, thus making them non-concrete.

The only thing that is confirmed at this point is that a new*Fallout is really in development, and while the details may change–it may not be called Fallout 4, for example–we do know that war never changes.

And we’re okay with that.
