U.S. Retina iPad mini supply picks up as carriers begin to get inventory as well

Major U.S. carriers are finally beginning to receive Retina iPad mini inventory.

Released rather discreetly last month, the Retina iPad mini has had more than its fair share of supply issues. The tablet’s manufacturing process was hampered due to issues with display panels, which led to the supply shortage at launch. Initially the tablet was very hard to get hands on, with most Apple Retail Stores in the U.S. not having any inventory. Since then Apple has improved supply, with its stores now allowing walk-in purchases of the tablet. Recent reports had revealed that even though shipping times had improved on Apple’s online store, major U.S. carriers still had the tablet backordered, and had no inventory to work with. Latest checks reveal that the situation has greatly improved.

Verizon, the largest mobile carrier in the U.S., now lists a shipping estimate of Saturday on its website for the Retina iPad mini, whereas a survey of its retail stores reveal that select locations have inventory available. Supply to AT&T has improved as well, a number of the carrier’s retail stores now have inventory, so customers won’t have any issues in getting their hands on a new Retina iPad mini.*This is a significant improved over previous shipping estimates of 21 days and 10 days quoted by AT&T and Verizon with no stock in-stores, respectively.

The situation has also improved on Apple’s online store. Shipping estimates have improved from five to ten days in November to just one to three business days in this month. This goes for both Wi-Fi only and cellular + Wi-Fi models on all four major U.S. carriers.
