Sony Xperia Z1s visits the FCC, inches closer to a heavily anticipated launch

Official word on the Sony Xperia Z1s, the world’s first mini Android smartphone with flagship hardware, remains as elusive as ever, but the Z1s’ visit to the FCC recently suggests that’s about to change very soon.

The FCC filing doesn’t offer any new information except the device’s dimensions -*129 x 64.9mm – and the software version (14.2.A.0.144, most likely Android 4.3 Jelly Bean). However, as the Z1s’ Japan-only variant, the Xperia Z1f, is already official in the country, there’s not much in the way of new details we expect to find before the official launch anyway.

As a refresher, the Xperia Z1s will sport a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch 720p display, 20.7-megapixel Exmor camera (same as the one on the Xperia Z1), 16GB of internal storage and a microSD slot,*water-resistant construction, and a 2,300 mAh battery. The latest rumors point towards a Q1 2014 launch with a price tag of*$590, and an official presentation at either CES or MWC.
