The numbers for November are in, and Sony’s PlayStation 4 has managed to best the Xbox One.
Number crunching site NPD confirmed sales numbers for the month of November, and Sony was able to pull the first punch with the PlayStation 4.
Sony sold 2.1 million units to Microsoft’s 2 million sales. The victory was short-lived, as Microsoft’s Xbox One grabbed the fastest selling console title, with the Redmond giant selling 101,000 Xbox One units every day. Sony launched its console in the U.S. a week ahead of Microsoft, and was able to boast better sales figures. When it came to week-by-week sales numbers, the Xbox One won out.
A total of 909,132 Xbox One consoles were sold over nine days in the U.S. Microsoft sold three times as many Xbox One units when seen against the Xbox 360 sales during its launch in 2005. Meanwhile, Sony posted a thank you message to its fans on the PlayStation blog for making the PlayStation 4 the best-selling console.
SCEA CEO Jack Tretton had this to say:
From the numbers, what is clear is that both consoles are seeing overwhelming demand. Microsoft is stating that the Xbox One is sold out across most retailers around the world, and that it is working hard to meet the demand. Sony’s PS4 is faring no better, with the console selling out at most brick and mortar locations. Walmart said yesterday that it is due to get one of its biggest ever consignment of the PS4 this weekend. If you missed out on getting the console on launch day, this weekend would be the best time to head over to a Walmart store.

“PlayStation 4 sales in North America and worldwide have been incredibly strong since launch, culminating in PS4 being recognized as the largest console launch in history. In North America alone, more than one million PS4 units were sold in only 24 hours and we’re pleased NPD has reported that PS4 was the top selling next gen platform for both hardware and software in November. We are humbled by the passion and excitement demonstrated by gamers for PS4. Demand continues to overwhelm supply, but we’re working hard to get PS4 units into the hands of customers throughout the holiday season.”
