LG G2 'mini' with 4.7-inch screen and Snapdragon 800 CPU tipped for January intro

With everyone that’s someone in the mobile business opting for “mini” rather than “maxi” of late, it was only a matter of time until the diminutive craze conquered LG too.

And by the looks of it, we shall wait no more for a shrunken G2. The aptly named G2 mini is reportedly in the works already and may get a formal introduction as soon as next month. Early next month, that is, with CES in Las Vegas bound to be the go-to place for gadget announcements.

Granted, the G2 mini scoop comes with no substantial evidence attached and, at first glance, you could be inclined to say its source is fairly obscure. But mind you, Greek blog Techblog has been behind a number of mobile exposes in the past few months, so there’s no reason we should take their word with too much caution.

The right amount of caution is therefore advised, especially as to the purported name and specs of this “G2 mini”. Techblog.gr claims LG wants to take a page out of Sony’s playbook and go for a cutting-edge, top-shelf, “unapologetic” compact phone instead of a diminutive in every way device.

The kicker is, on top of high-end features, the G2 mini is believed to be quite spacious as well, with a 4.7-inch panel that was not long ago considered ginormous. HD or Full HD? Both are possible at the moment, but again, if the latter takes shape, branding this baby as a “mini” sounds like a big (pun intended) mistake.

Heck, if the handheld does indeed pack Snapdragon 800 heat and 2 GB RAM, as our sources suggest, it may well end up the brightest star on the Vegas sky between January 7 and 10. Now imagine how bad it’d look for the bad boy to be called G2 mini.
