ZOTAC shrinks the PC with ZBOX PI320 pico

ZOTAC has been a pioneer in small form factor mini-PC space with its ZBOX nano series. Now, with ZOTAC ZBOX PI320 pico, is taking PC miniaturisation to an all new level. Measuring just 115mm x 66mm x 19mm, the pico is smaller than two modern flagship smartphones stacked on top of each other and easily pocketable. The PI320 pico is powered by a quad-core Bay Trail Atom SoC, with 32GB eMMC storage and 2GB DDR3L RAM. Windows 8.1 with Bing, the new subsidised edition of Windows 8.1, is pre-installed for a full fledged PC experience. Essentially, the ZBOX pico is a Windows 8.1 tablet such as Dell Venue 8 Pro or Asus Transformer Book T100 without a display and a battery. Of course, this means it is completely fanless and very frugal on power consumption. As we have seen with Bay Trail powered tablets, performance in Windows 8.1 is surprisingly good, and the pico should be fine for general light usage such as Office productivity, web browsing, video playback or casual games / apps from Windows Store.

In addition to the usual 3.5mm audio port, microSDXC slot, Wi-fi and Bluetooth 4.0 we expect from tablets, the PI320 pico adds a full sized HDMI port, 3 USB 2.0 ports and even 10/100 Ethernet. A VESA compatible mounting bracket seamlessly attaches the pico to a TV and monitor, and the HDMI port supports upto 1080p. ZOTAC is targeting the ZBOX PI320 pico for “any room in the house, specialized installations, and for seasoned travelers on the go.” It should also be an interesting option as a HTPC or streaming device. It is scheduled to release by early October with an MSRP of $199.
