It seems like adopting a different design philosophy for its rookie smartwatch effort than rivals Samsung, LG or Sony is paying off for Motorola, as the Moto 360 is by far the most buzzed-about intelligent timepiece in Android Wear’s short history.
Motorola’s secrecy over the unveiled but unreleased Moto 360 wearable gizmo is really close of becoming annoying. Good thing we have resourceful fellows in the blogosphere like Italian tech journo Luca Viscardi, aka Mister Gadget.
Somehow, the guy’s managed to score a pre-release 360 prototype, which he quickly photographed from every angle and shortly previewed. Of course, he’s in no position to confirm tidbits like retail pricing or commercial launch dates, but he can vouch for one of the smartwatch’s rumored, hotly anticipated features.
Yes, the Moto 360 can be charged wirelessly, using no cables or cords whatsoever, just a nifty little docking station. Okay, maybe it’s not so little, but it’s definitely chic and a much cooler travel accessory than a conventional plug-in charger.
Another feature we heard a lot of whispers about, but no one could corroborate until now, is a Samsung Gear Live-like heart rate sensor. The water and dustproof functions are themselves set in stone, although they’re hardly surprises, and battery life is apparently amazing, despite the watch feeling lighter than most of its rivals in the hand.
According to Mr. Gadget, the LG G Watch he previously tested lasted a pithy full day on a single charge, whereas the Moto 360, in similar use conditions, kept the lights on for nearly three times as much. Now that’s*what we like to hear.
