Motorola Droid Turbo crops up out of nowhere, S805 and QHD screen in tow

Yet another upcoming top-shelf Motorola smartphone seems to have surfaced online, carrying the ballsy Droid Turbo moniker and a Samsung Galaxy Note 4-rivaling spec sheet.

There are unflattering gadget names, like, say, Droid Razr, there are those that subtly convey the right message, such as Droid Ultra, and then there are stage names that ditch all subtlety and low-profileness in favor of, well, cockiness.

Justified cockiness, it seems, as the Droid Turbo, presumably Ultra’s Verizon-bound sequel, pretty much accommodates the best features it could possibly make use of during the final stages of 2014. Quad HD, aka QHD, aka 2K display? Check.

Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.7 GHz and paired with a Krait 450 GPU? You got it. A whopping amount of random-access memory that’s poised to make Chromebooks and low-end Windows notebooks jealous? 3 GB it is. And I know, I know, the 20 MP rear-facing camera doesn’t quite sound like a 41 MP Nokia PureView challenger, but if it sports optical image stabilization, trust me, it’s a force to be reckoned with.

Oh, and you’re yet to hear the best part. If this Droid Turbo is real, and headed for Big Red as a Droid Ultra follow-up, a Turbo Maxx spin-off is unquestionably in the cards too. With all of the above, plus a gigantic power bank.

Last year’s Droid Maxx packed a 3,500 mAh battery on a 5-inch display, and assuming the screen real estate grows to 5.5, maybe 5.9 inches, the sky is the limit to the new juicer’s capacity. Too bad there’s no way to verify Droid Turbo’s legitimacy at the moment.

And no, we’re not ruling out it being a sort of carrier-exclusive take on the Shamu, aka Nexus 6, with a “tainted” copy of Android 4.4 KitKat pre-loaded. Remember, a pretty bitching, customizable Moto X+1 is also coming, and at the low-end spectrum, a G2 is imminent. Boy, is Motorola planning to wrap up its Google collaboration with a bang. Lenovo, you’ve scored yourselves a gold mine.
