All you have to do is say*“Take a picture” or “Take a video” in Google voice search, and Google will do the rest for you.
A new Google search update lets you take photos or videos by issuing voice commands.
When you’re in Google Now or Google voice search, saying “Take a picture” and “Take a video” will launch the camera and allows you to start taking images and videos quickly. Issuing voice commands merely launches the camera app in photo or video mode. You still have to shoot images and videos manually. The changes are being executed at the server-side, so you don’t need to install a new version of the Google search client for this functionality to be enabled.
Google mentions that this functionality was added so that users can access the camera faster. In a Google+ post detailing the new addition, Google says the ideal “photo passes you by as you fumble with your phone to open the camera app.” However, it is more than likely that you would waste more time in trying to access the camera through a voice command. Instead of just pressing the camera icon on your home screen, you would have to say “OK Google” to get into the voice recognition mode, say “Take a picture” or “Take a video”, and then wait a few seconds while the command is executed.
A feature like this would make more sense in a handset like the Moto X that has an always-on listening mode. That way, all you have to do is say “Take a picture” or “Take a video” and access the camera client. The functionality seems to be working on Jelly Bean as well as KitKat, but it might be a while before all users are able to access this feature.
