Word on the street is that Apple is looking towards LG’s battery tech for its first smartwatch.
Its no secret that nobody really knows what Apple’s plans are with regards to the iWatch. This smartwatch has been rumored for a couple of years now yet so far it hasn’t even hinted at the possibility of such a device. Yet rumors continue to roll in on a daily basis. The latest coming in from Korea suggest that contrary to popular belief, iWatch won’t use solar chargeable batteries as the primary power source, instead its expected to opt for conventional lithium-ion batteries.
It was recently rumored that the iWatch will have solar charging capability, and that Apple was also testing out harnessing energy from kinect motion, basically producing energy through the user’s moving arm. All this is now said to be out the window, and it is even claimed that iWatch won’t even have a curved display as most have been predicting.
Suppliers for the battery are said to be Tianjin Lishen Battery, Samsung SDI and LG Chem. LG first unveiled its stepped battery technology when it announced the G2 smartphone last year. The battery better use to the space available by packing all layers closer to each other, this in turn increases its performance. Moreover, Apple is said to prefer this technology because it can be applied for in different shapes.
