Nokia Lumia 1520 mini caught on camera

Photos of what is purportedly a Nokia Lumia 1520 mini have leaked online, featuring the handset next to a Lumia 1520 and an iPhone. *

Android manufacturers readily embraced the philosophy that a flagship device should be accompanied by a lesser-powered mini version, until Sony turned that not-so-old tradition on its head by launching the Xperia Z1 Compact, which offers flagship hardware in a compact body built for comfortable one-handed usage. Nokia, the sole proprietor of Windows Phone, is expected to follow in Sony’s footsteps with the Lumia 1520 mini, which has now shown up in live pictures, just days after word of its existence hit the rumor mill.

The photos reveal that the Lumia 1520 mini – also known as the Lumia 1520v – unsurprisingly looks similar to the Lumia 1520. Initial rumors suggested it would have a 4.3-inch of 1080p resolution, but now it is said that it will sport a 4.45-inch 720p unit instead, which is something we already guessed would be the case, as 1080p on a 4.4-inch panel would have been extremely overkill. The battery also won’t be sporting a capacity of 3,000 mAh, but will reportedly be only a*2370 mAh unit, which is in keeping with the battery capacity we’ve come to expect on similar-sized devices.

The rest of the Lumia 1520v’s specs are expected to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and a 14-megapixel camera (no telling whether it will sport PureView branding). The device is tipped for an April release, though an official announcement could be made at Nokia’s MWC press event next month.
