Walmart will sell contract free iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C from Dec. 13

One of the largest retailers in the U.S. will start selling Apple’s new iPhones off contract from December 13.

Both new iPhones have been available from Walmart ever since they were initially launched. Walmart was one of Apple’s retail launch partners, however up till now the retailer has only sold carrier locked iPhones. Customers who wished to purchase an iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C from the retailer could easily do so either in-store or online, but they had to opt for a two year contract from a number of carriers. Now customers who wish to just pay up front for the device and get an unlocked variant can simply head into their local Walmart and pick one up.

Exclusively being offered through Walmart, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C can be purchased on no contract 30-day plans with unlimited talk, text and data from NET10 Wireless and Straight Talk Wireless. Don’t expect any discounts on the up front prices of the smartphones though, they are equal to what Apple offers in its online store for unlocked variants. The 16GB iPhone 5S in silver, gold or space gray will cost customers $649, whereas the 16GB iPhone 5C offered in five different colors costs $549. Those who wouldn’t mind using an outdated smartphone can opt for an iPhone 4S, the 8GB model is available in-store and online for $449. The iPhone 5C is available online only whereas the iPhone 5S is available in-store as well as online.

Customers who don’t want to get tied to a conventional two year contract now have more flexibility,*not only do they get Apple’s latest and probably two of the most sought after smartphones in the market right now, they also save a lot of money on their phone bill.
