Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 is an entry-level mobile SoC that comes with a wide range of LTE bands, and is the first Qualcomm SoC to have a 64-bit memory architecture.
Qualcomm is making its foray into 64-bit SoCs with the announcement of the Snapdragon 410.
The Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) is the first to be based on ARM’s v8 Cortex A53, which is the successor to the Cortex A15. The Snapdragon 410 is built on a 28nm LP manufacturing process, and comes with four Cortex A53 cores that are tweaked by Qualcomm and launched under the Krait moniker. These cores are clocked anywhere between 1.2 GHz to 1.4 GHz. The Snapdragon 410 also features the Adreno 306 GPU that is a slightly modified version of the Adreno 305 seen on the Snapdragon 400 line.
Qualcomm is marketing this chip to the low to mid-range smartphone market, one that is growing quickly in Asia and the developing world. Now that China Mobile is rolling out LTE service, demand for cheap LTE compatible phones will no doubt increase dramatically.
There is a new ISP, which means that manufacturers can add a 13 MP primary camera, and Qualcomm is stating that the SoC will work with dual-SIM configurations, and even on devices with three SIM card slots. Also included is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM and NFC functionality.
A major change that Qualcomm has undertaken with the Snapdragon 410 is the inclusion of LTE, which is in the form of a Qualcomm 9×25 based LTE modem. The modem features LTE Category 4, DC-HSPA+ and 3G connectivity. The same modem was earlier used in the Snapdragon 800.
More details are expected at the Consumer Electronics Show in January or at Mobile World Congress the month after.
