Notion Ink Adam II is available in India, global rollout soon

The Adam II is the first table to come out of Notion Ink in two years, and it does feature a few unique elements.

Notion Ink’s first Adam tablet did not fare as well as it would’ve liked, and after two years in the drawing board, there is a new offering. The Adam II is targeted at the mid-tier segment, and is currently available only in India for the time being. The tablet features aluminium construction and a unique secondary notification bar on the leaf for viewing incoming notifications.

Hardware details of the Adam II include a 10-inch LCD with a 1280 x 800 resolution, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB ROM with a micro-SD card slot, 1.5Ghz dual core Cortex A9 CPU, 3.15MP camera at the back, 6,000 mAh battery and MicroHDMI out.

The secondary display is a twisted nematic screen that is a monochromatic variant of LCD. The black and white screen is featured on the leaf of the Adam II, and can be customized to show contextual data and incoming notifications.

The Adam II comes with a lightly-skinned version of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Although the tablet is constructed of aluminium, the hardware inside does not warrant the high cost. The Wi-Fi-only version is retailing for $265 (Rs. 16,499) in India, with the Wi-Fi + 3G model costing $305 (Rs. 18,999). Notion Ink has stated that the Adam II will be available in other regions soon.

There is a dearth of 10-inch Android tablets in this price segment, but we’re not sure if the Adam II is the answer. 1 GB RAM and a dual-core Cortex A9 CPU are adequate for less-intensive tasks like web browsing and watching video online, but if you want to play the latest gaming titles, you’re better off with the Google Nexus 10 or the Kindle Fire HDX. They do cost significantly more at $399, but they offer a screen with a significantly higher screen resolution and better hardware.
