LG-V510 is a Google Play Edition LG G Pad 8.3

The LG-V510 is a Google Play edition of the LG G Pad 8.3, not a Nexus device, according to data unearthed by a Reddit user.*

The previous appearance of the LG-V510 hinted at it being a Nexus tablet due to the presence of the text*“USG/GOOGLE_OPEN_16G (UNITED STATES)” in its user agent string, but open source files posted by LG for the device have revealed that it is instead a Google Play Edition variant of the LG G Pad 8.3. The release date still remains unknown, but this should at least put all rumors and speculation on the LG-V510 to rest.

This might come as disappointment to those who were expecting an 8-inch Nexus would be joining Google’s Nexus lineup, but the Google Play edition won’t exactly be so bad as one might think. Why? Because Google Play Edition devices run on stock Android, and get quick updates to the newest version of the OS, making them as good as Nexus devices; the only disadvantage here would be that the G Pad Google Play edition likely won’t be available outside the US, though we can always hope that changes with Google’s first Play Edition tablet.

As a refresher, the G Pad sports a*1920×1200 8.3-inch display, quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front-facing cameras, 16GB of storage, and a 4,600 mAh battery. As mentioned in the source files, it will run on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, likely the latest iteration that rolled out to Nexus devices earlier today.
