LG confirms OIS Plus 13 MP camera with Ultra HD video recording for G Pro 2

LG continues to gradually trickle out official information on the upcoming G Pro 2 smartphone, which is poised to debut later this month touting a 13 MP rear-facing camera with a number of neat tricks up its sleeve.

Brace yourselves, the Mobile World Congress is nearing, and odds are the expo, unlike last month’s Consumer Electronics Show, will bring multiple outstanding high-end gadgets to light. Like the Galaxy S5, which Samsung pretty much confirmed for a February 2014 intro.

Then there’s HTC’s M8 (aka One Plus or One Two), though that thing may ultimately be pushed back to March. And let’s not forget about Sony, whose Xperia Z1 sequel(s) (rehashes?) can’t wait to break cover.

Last but not least, LG has the G Pro 2 in the pipeline. A follow-up to the grossly underrated Optimus G Pro, this big guy is on track for an unveiling either during MWC, or on the eve of the actual show’s start. Probably the latter, as the Koreans might want to avoid having their buzz crushed by the S5 announcement.

Unless they trust G Pro 2’s prospects more than they did with the Optimus G Pro. Besides, its main rival won’t be the S5, but rather the Note 3, as the rumored 6-inch Full HD display puts it smack-dab in phablet territory.

And it sounds like the G Pro 2 can trump Samsung’s 5.7-incher, at least in the camera department. An LG press release issued earlier today details the future handheld’s snapper, a run-of-the-mill 13 MP unit at first glance.

Once you look beyond the megapixel count, you’ll however find enhancements such as optical image stabilization and little perks like Ultra HD (aka 4K, aka 3,840 x 2,160 pixels) video recording, which make it clear the G Pro 2 kicks off a whole new ball game.

Also, get this, LG improved G2’s already stellar optical image stabilization, branding the fresh technology as OIS Plus. Translation: crystal clear pics even in the toughest lighting conditions, thanks to an Electro Image System (EIS) that corrects blurring. Badass alert? You tell us.
