Take the money and run: 'Battlefield: Hardline' gets new trailer and release date

Electronic Arts reveals the release date for Battlefield: Hardline in a new gameplay trailer.

With E3 just mere days away, leaks are starting to happen more and more as the big show nears. A little over a week ago Battlefield: Hardline was prematurely revealed to the gaming world via a six-month old gameplay trailer, disrupting EA’s plans to unveil the shooter at E3. In response to the leaks, EA made the game official rather than waiting for the tradeshow.

Now leaks have struck again, once more forcing EA’s hand in releasing the content before their on-stage E3 conference. The brand new trailer (see below) showcases updated gameplay footage for the cops-and-robbers shooter, as well as an October 21 release date.

EA’s move to commission a Battlefield game to contend with this year’s Call of Duty release from Activsion isn’t surprising, and once again locks players into the great annual FPS debate that’s become ingrained with the industry.

Rather than stick with the traditional military focus for the series, EA enlisted Visceral Gamers to deliver something quite unique for the franchise: a no-holds-barred dirty-cop romp set in the heart of a crime-addled metropolis.

As the synopsis for the newly released “Into the Jungle” trailer puts it, the dev team has tapped some distinct pop culture influences, of which Training Day and Point Break are no-doubt included.

“Visceral Games brings its critically-acclaimed storytelling swagger to an all new cops and criminal fantasy inspired by some of the most popular TV crime dramas.”

The release date is worrisome considering all of the great titles crowded for October, and looks to be a bad idea to shove*so many games into one month. So far we have anticipated releases like Alien: Isolation , Middle Earth:*Shadows of Mordor , the new Borderlands: Pre-Sequel , Dragon Age: Inquisition , and Drive Club .

And to make matters worse, Hardline will release the same day as Evolve , the interesting new co-op shooter from the devs of Left 4 Dead. Then next month we have Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and not to mention Destiny‘s release earlier in September.

This Fall is going to lead to hot competition between devs and publishers as well as a lot of broke gamers, but at least we’ll have games to play, right?

EA is believed to showcase more Battlefield: Hardline footage and details at E3 (hopefully the leaks haven’t completely spoiled the surprise) where they will show off six new games. The new crime-drama shooter is supposedly one of the six reveals, and it’ll be interesting to see what the publisher has in store for us at the show.

Battlefield: Hardline is slated to release in October 21, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, with supposed releases across Xbox One and Xbox 360 as well. For more info drop by the game’s official website.
