Wi-Fi-only Sony Xperia Z Ultra 'mini tablet' in the works?

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is sold as a smartphone, but with a 6.4-inch display, it borders dangerously close to tablet territory.*

Now, it looks like Sony could actually be treating its giant Xperia like a tablet and working on a variant that comes with only Wi-Fi connectivity, following the tradition of Wi-Fi-only tablets. A*Sony TS-0010 has been spotted at the FCC, listed as both a*”portable handset”*and a*”portable UMPC mini-tablet”,*and the dimensions of the device match those of the Xperia Z Ultra.

It sports a slew of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi*(802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, NFC, and GPS, but is missing any form of cellular connectivity. It’s possible it’s simply a downgraded version of the Xperia Z Ultra and could attain cellular radios later on, but could it also be that Sony has realized that the farce has gone on long enough, and that 6-inch+ devices really should be called tablets?

Maybe a new mini-tablet category is on the horizon?
