iPad's rumored split-screen multitasking feature exists, demoed on video

An incomplete version of the split-screen multitasking for the iPad has been demoed on video, confirming that Apple has been working on the feature for some time.

A leaked video has confirmed*that split-screen multitasking is certainly going to be a feature in iOS, even though it might not be ready yet for an official reveal.

It had been rumored that Apple would introduce split-screen multitasking as one of the new features for the iPad, but the company didn’t make*any announcement while showing off iOS 8 at WDDC. As it turns out, it is simply because the code for the functionality is not yet complete, but it certainly does exist and can actually be accessed in the iOS 8 beta that was made available to developers.

A video put together by*developer Steven Troughton-Smith shows that running two apps at the same time*is similar to how it is done on Windows 8 and through the Multi-Window feature on Samsung phones and tablets. At this point, there doesn’t seem to be any option to actually run a second app and everything seems rather buggy, but the fact that a running app can be resized freely is a pretty good indication of how the feature will work.

Split-screen multitasking probably won’t be ready in time for the consumer release of iOS 8. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple keeps the feature exclusive for its*rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro that is expected to be launched in 2015,*as the large display on the Pro model will likely offer the most convenient way of running multiple apps side by side.
