Microsoft is fixing major annoyances with the Xbox One ahead of Titanfall’s launch.
Microsoft is rolling out the first major Xbox One system update since the console’s launch four months ago. The update brings new multiplayer features ahead of the launch of the critically-acclaimed Titanfall next week. Microsoft said that most of the fixes and enhancements featured in this update are driven by user feedback it received over the last few months.
The update gives you the ability to access your friends list faster thanks to the inclusion of a Social tile on the Xbox One dashboard. You can also use the voice guided system and just say, “Xbox, go to Friends” to see your friends list. Several party features have also been tweaked, like the ability to chat with your online friends even if they’re playing a different game. You can now invite friends to a multiplayer game, provided both of you have the game. When you’re in a party chat, the chat audio is turned on by default.
A list of “Recent Players” lets you see the Xbox Live members you’ve recently played with. Also new with the update is the ability to connect to 5.1 Dolby Digital systems using the optical cable. You can also connect Dolby Digital surround systems over HDMI. You can now set custom volume increment levels when using the “Xbox volume up” or “Xbox volume down” voice commands to adjust volume. Additional functionality includes better SmartGlass integration along with support for the Xbox One Stereo Headset and Adapter and the Xbox One Media Remote.
The biggest enhancement is the availability of Twitch game broadcasting, which is set to begin from March 11, which is the launch date for Titanfall in the U.S. Here’s a video tour of all the new features:
