Apple is sick of 'Flappy', rejects bird alternatives from App Store

It seems like Apple is also tired of the ‘Flappy’ frenzy as it’s been reported that various clones and imitators of Dong Nguyen’s popular indie game have been given the red flag by the App Store.

This developer was thinking ahead, and made sure it was splashy and not flappy.

The numbers of Flappy clones are unlimited because the concept of the original game is so addicting yet also extremely simple.* Even more so is the fact that anyone can slap a bug or an animal after ‘Flappy’ and it’ll be nearly identical to the original.

Apple reportedly took down or forced various clones to change their names because these apps contained ‘false, fraudulent or misleading representations’ of the original Flappy Bird.* Imitators like Flappy Fish, Flappy Plane, Flappy Pig and Flappy Puppy were all subjects to crack downs by Apple.

A developer trying to release Flappy Dragon got the following rejection message from Apple:
We found that your app, and/or its metadata, contains content that could be misleading to users, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

We found your app name attempts to leverage a popular app.

Faretheewell, bird that had a hard time floating.

The Flappy craze is far from over as clones like Splashy Fish and City Birds are still two of Apple’s most popular free iPhone apps since Nguyen killed the bird.
