Microsoft has claimed that both its Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets are ‘close to selling out’, via its*Microsoft Developer Twitter feed.
In a recent tweet, Microsoft asserted that both models of the most recent generation of its flagship tablet series – the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 – are nearly completely sold out, although the company opted not to divulge into any detail around the exact numbers of device sales.
Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are close to selling out. All those buyers are gonna need apps.

After the truly impressive failure of the original Surface tablet and write-off of nearly $1 billion in unshifted stock, you’d be forgiven for taking this comment with a pinch of salt. However, the devices in the latest refresh do offer much beefier set-ups, so it’s quite possible that Microsoft has successfully marketed its new products to a more savvy, professional customer, which could explain a higher demand.
Not to worry, though, as so far it seems that only pre-orders of the more expensive models have been affected by any inflated demand. Most configurations are still available to pre-order on the Surface website*at the time of writing, but if Microsoft’s claim is at all true, they might not be available for long.
